A while back, I walked in an establishment that sold concrete countertops. Upon entering, I was amazed at the set-up of their showroom and the look of the concrete tops and thought to myself, “We should do this too!” But after further research into the concrete tops, that thought soon changed and here’s why.
While concrete countertops look amazing at first, unless you’re going high end of upwards of $100 a sq ft, that look may be short lived. Light moisture takes up to 30 minutes to dissipate which means that a simple wipe up is a process. Not to mention, the stains that wine or oils can make (oil being the worst here). Also being a porous material, bacteria will begin to hold and that can create more issues.
Repairs are apparently easy to make, whether it be a crack or chip, but who wants to make repairs on their countertops? It just gives the companies repeat business with you, costing you more money. Also, it must be noted that they need to be sealed twice a year making for a high maintenance product.
After reading the experience of others with regard to this product I feel there is something to be said for the almighty look of stone. It’s majestic, durable, and sanitary. It’s also less maintenance. For example, we seal every top with at least a 15 year sealer, making it easier for you to simply enjoy it! Nature definitely beats man and his trend here!
